Visa Application with Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)

2026/1/21
Working and long-term stay visas must generally be applied for with a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE).

The CoE is usually applied for directly by a guarantor (such as an employer, university, school, event organizer, spouse, etc.) at the competent regional office of the Immigration Services Agency of Japan. After the case is reviewed, approved, and issued, the certificate is sent to the guarantor, who then forwards it to the visa applicant.

Please note: The CoE is valid for 3 months from the date of issue. Within this period, you must apply for a visa with the CoE and enter Japan with both the visa and the CoE.
